Susan Bai
Course Administrator and Trainer
I started learning English as a Foreign Language in middle school in my hometown in Inner Mongolia. As a young girl the English language fascinated me so much that I chose English Education as my major for university. I then started teaching English in a primary school after graduation in August 1999.
Over the past 11 years, the various organizations and institutions I have worked with have given me a 360 degree exposure to the language teaching profession. I have taught and trained children, adolescents, adults and professionals. From the stand point of the organization, I have worked with highly reputed Chinese as well as multinational institutions. My professional development has been honed by training and application of multiple methods, syllabi, techniques and materials. My parallel personal development has been shaped by interactions with management, colleagues and trainees from across the globe. I joined TEFL International in 2009 and set up the Shanghai Centre. I worked in Shanghai for a year before the centre was relocated to Hangzhou.
Having personally experienced many years of learning and teaching English as a foreign language, I have acquired professional knowledge and skills related to Second Language Teaching and Acquisition. Such journey has also helped me tremendously to be a qualified and effective trainer for TEFL International.
I’m always interested in learning different languages and cultures through stamp collecting, travelling, cooking and books. I enjoy a nice movie, good company, food and a cup of wine after work. I have a great interest in cultural exchange. Bing a bridge between the east and west gives me great pleasure and achievement both in and outside a classroom. I have travelled throughout China and to parts of Thailand, Lao, Cambodia and India. I wish I have a chance to visit an English speaking country some day. I believe everyone has the potential and power to rise to the challenges and opportunities tomorrow has to offer.
Charmaine Barretto – Trainer
I hail from Incredible India – a land characterized with diversity, spirituality and culture.
I have both a Bachelors as well as a Masters degree in Economics and have spent 18 years working in the Banking and Financial Services Industry, for reputed multinational organizations.
My journey to the classroom began at the training centres of the banks I worked with , where I discovered my love for teaching. Making a break from the World of Finance was not an easy decision. To test the waters I did a short stint at Pueblo Ingles, Spain, an organization which conducts English Immersion residential programmes for Spanish professionals from every field – lawyers, doctors, government bureaucrats and management cadres. The experience was extremely fulfilling and a year later I decided to pursue English Language Training as a career. I acquired my TEFL certification in Shanghai, China, and moved on the become a TEFL Trainer.
With 18 years of experience in the service industry, I have interacted with people across the entire spectrum of humanity – businessmen, lawyers, doctors, teachers, students, parents and people from diverse social and economic backgrounds. Having been to 34 countries around the globe, I am widely travelled and also widely read – this makes it easy for me to bond with people and blend into a multi-cultural environment. I speak 5 languages and hence am fully sensitized to the needs of a language classroom from both the teacher’s as well as the student’s perspective.
A extravert by nature who enjoys meeting and interacting with people – what better place to be in than a TEFL Classroom !
Robert Ayres – GLV Academic Director

He chose China for its amazing history and the mystique of its people. He taught at Xiaolan Government schools before coming to GLV. He loves the Chinese lifestyle and is learning Mandarin because he plans to stay a while.
